Hello crafty friends!
I am so excited and overjoyed to be able to guest design for The Male Room Challenge #99. The theme for this challenge is Mechanical/Moving Part.
I have to admit I struggled a bit with this one as I don’t make interactive cards (I made one once before – this is my second one).Β I really wanted to incorporate both Mechanical and Moving Part for this project and it took some brainstorming and before I decided on the slider card design.
I thought creating a trunk with lock and key and a bunch of gears coming out of either side would make a cool birthday card for my father in law.
I found a slider tutorial on YouTube and was really surprised how easy it was to make.
My slider card base was made out of black cardstock and all other pieces were created out of dark and light brown cardstock.
To prep my card base I sprayed the sliding pieces with distress resist spray. For the two pieces of the front panel (the trunk) I cut dark brown cardstock and used a 3D embossing folder to get an imprint. Then I inked both pieces with different distress inks to create a rusty, weathered look. Next I distressed the edges of both pieces and popped the smaller piece with foam tape (this is the lid of my trunk).
For the gears I have used a piece of light brown cardstock (previously made mixed media project) and die cut all the elements and the sentiment.
With extra die cuts I added some dimension only to the sentiment as I wanted to make sure that the card slides smoothly.
Most of the dimension is in the front of the card where I added metal gears and a lock and key. The key is actually used to pull on so the sliding mechanism would work.
The lock was secured with 3 layers of foam tape and the key is secured by a brad.
This is what the card looks like once it’s fully opened.
What a fun and challenging project this was!! I hope you like it as much as I do.
I think my father in law will also like his birthday card π
Thank you so very much for stopping by today and don’t forget to play along at The Male Room Challenge.
